Care and Precautions for Porcelain

Porcelain is a material that is perfectly suited to everyday life. It can safely be put in the dishwasher, which will not hurt the decoration, but give it a radiant shine.

Great care must be taken when putting a porcelain dish in the oven. 1400°C fired porcelain can withstand your oven's 300°C, but not thermal shocks. When you take it out of the oven, do not run cold water on it and avoid putting it on a cold surface, lay it on a wooden or material-covered surface, or on a cloth. As for microwave ovens, you must make sure there is no metal (gold or platinum) on the decoration - Raynaud does not today make decorations with microwave-proof fake metal. Only white or color decorations can go in the microwave.

Be creative in your use of the various pieces, for instance... a presen- tation plate can be used as a single-dish dinner plate, as a cake plate, a cheese plate... the dessert plate is perfect for an appetizer or cheese, the fruitcake dish is ideal for "pâté" and also "canapés", "petit-fours" and smoked salmon. The soup tureen is today used for soup, "consommés", "bouillabaisse", "pot-au-feu", pasta... all the convivial and generous dishes. Salad bowls are also very practical for pasta, risotto... sauceboats can be used for fruit sauces.

Exotic cuisine is very fashionable, and if you don't have a Thai dinner every night, remember that the bowls will look lovely filled with "hors d'œuvres" or sauce, and the cups can turn into sugar bowls.

It's that time of year again - Easter; the time when peeps line the shelves of every grocery store and pharmacy. It's that time of the year when you think to yourself, "those are pretty darn cute but I've never liked peeps." The ONLY way to eat peeps, in my opinion, is to blow them up in the microwave until they look like jigglypuff and squish them between two graham cracker squares. Don't forget the chocolate! Seriously people, I could eat a whole box of peeps this way.

For some reason, every time I see peeps I think of my sister. I found a super colorful post on Pinterest (who doesn't LOVE Pinterest? If you don't know what Pinterest is... you need to get on board fast.) which had peep chicks dunked in white chocolate with sprinkles. I find white chocolate hard to melt without it turning off white, plus I don't like how it tastes. Milk chocolate is soooo much more scrumptious. Add a little bit of cream to thin it out a bit and you basically have a creamy ganache hugging those bunny peeps nice and tight. Peeps covered in chocolate and decorated with sprinkles might be a delicious treat all on their own, but it's really all about the graham. Packaged the choco-swaddled-bunny-foo-foos in a cleaned out (and dishwashered) glass jar along with a pack of graham crackers and mailed it off to someone you love. Or serve them ready made (or in parts) on our spring Lady Charlotte's Lily dessert and dinner plates. It's a great activity to do with the kids. Watching the little bunnies puff up in the microwave is the best part!
For single serving peep snacks you can fit one peep and two graham cracker squares in smaller mason jars.

Happy Easter Everyone!

Make It Yours:

Everything about our Lady Charlotte's Lily screams spring! With vibrant pastel colors on a pure white background, this pattern makes the perfect spring/summer/Easter Sunday morning presentation.

Here in the Northeast the weather has been playing ping pong with us. It's mainly been warm (relative to what we're used to experiencing this time of year) with cold snaps that chill you to the bone. It is this time of year when butternut squash and other hearty vegetables are still in season. So, why not make yourself some butternut squash soup? Freeze it and pull it out during the next snowstorm. It will warm you right up!

Is there anything more sophisticated then enjoying warm flavorful soup in an exquisite rim soup bowl with a fresh piece of bread from the local bakery? I think not.

Chinoise Blue Rim Soup Plate (S1525) - $150

Chocolate-Strawberry Ganache Bars on Motahedeh tin plates

The recipe came from The New York Times. Click here for the full recipe and a little video (CLICK), or keep reading for the recipe. (The original recipe is a dark chocolate-cherry, but I used what I had and that was strawberry jam.

Ingredients:
150 grams all-purpose flour (about 1 1/2 cups)
90 grams confectioners' sugar (about 3/4 cup)
26 grams unsweetened cocoa powder (about 1/4 cup)
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
12 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
52 grams cherry (or strawberry) jam (about 2 tablespoons)
340 grams bittersweet chocolate, at least 62 percent, chopped (12 ounces)
2/3 cup heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon fleur de sel, for sprinkling.

1. In a food processor, pulse together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder and fine sea salt. Pulse in the butter and vanilla until the mixture just comes together into a smooth mass. Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment or wax paper. Press the dough into the pan. Prick all over with a fork. Chill for at least 20 minutes and up to 3 days.

2. Heat the over to 325 degrees. Bake the shortbread until firm to the touch and just beginning to pull away from the sides, 35-40 minutes.

3. Cool in the pan for 20 minutes on a wire rack. Brush jam over shortbread's surface and let cool thoroughly.

4. Place chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
In a saucepan, bring the cream to a simmer. Pour over the chocolate and whisk until smooth. Spread over shortbread. Sprinkle fleur de sel on. Cool to room temperature; cover and chill until firm. Slice and serve. (If you want to add some color you can sprinkle or add a layer of edible glitter/sparkles)

These are really good. I love sweet and savory things. The sprinkled fleur de sel on the top adds that savory taste and the ganache just melts in your mouth. Certainly worth a try.

And, how perfect do they look on our Turkish Garden Tin Plate Set? A set of four is $45 and comes complete with a tin box for storage. How about a romantic picnic with Chocolate-Strawberry Ganache Bars and a little bit of champagne (or sparking cider for those of us who don't drink.) Too cold outside, you say?! Well how about a picnic on the living room floor surrounded by candles and a warm fire?
